Down to Dust
03:40
|
|||
I’ll count the endless days until they end
This season’s sun around the bend
The wind will stir dark into light
‘Til it seems all the roads have changed over night
I called for a confessor but there was none
Like waiting for silence to come undone
My faith swam off shore towards the setting sun
and I waited til it faded and there was none
If hunting is nothing more than the chase, then this silence never never may break
When I’ve ground such beauty down to dust
maybe maybe then I’ll learn to trust
the hours that will blow brightly by
til there’s not a single cloud tainting my blue sky
If hunting is nothing more than the chase, then this silence never never may break

The City in the Sea
03:16
|
|||
The swelling winds sing of a past
When all around was just a wilderness of glass
‘Til one night the mystic moon had a crash
Then I found myself alone
In a city carved of ivy and stone
And in each child’s eye I saw a diamond glow
I said hello, how could I know
Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall
You can hear the hours breathing and call
Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall
You can hear the hours breathing and call
Who do they call?
Before the king rears himself a throne
I’ll pack my bags and leave this ain’t no home
Before it opens wide and you are swallowed whole
Do as your told
Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall
You can hear the hours breathing and call
Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall
You can hear the hours breathing and call
Who do they call?
When you find yourself alone
In a city carved of ivy and stone
And in each child’s eye you see a diamond glow
Just say hello

Delancey after Dark
03:14
|
|||
The devil on Delancey only comes out after dark
When he walks the streets
He owns the night and everyone he meets
When I heard his footsteps coming
I knew an offer would be made
“what we are in the night” he said
“is very different from who we are in the day.”
I danced the devil’s tune
I danced and prayed for day
When I gazed up at the moon, it was red as clay
He twirled me to the left, twirled me to the right
And when his eyes met mine, I knew I lost the fight
When I heard his footsteps coming
I knew an offer would be made
“what we are in the night” he said
“is very different from who we are in the day.”
I danced the devil’s tune
I danced and prayed for day
When I gazed up at the moon, it was red as clay
He twirled me to the left, twirled me to the right
And when his eyes met mine, I knew I lost the fight
The devil on Delancey only comes out after dark

Say it sweet
Keep it short
When he moves
No one knows his course
Like the wind, When it blows
From here to there from coast to coast
He might come back, creep in at dawn
He might arrive when dusk has gone
You ask his name
He says what for
With a smile like your words should be ignored
He moves in close
Steps in deep
How you wish you could see beneath
Like the wind, When it blows
The days are long
The nights are sweet
In his arms you admit defeat
If he stays a month or leaves next week
He was never yours, yours for keeps
He’s Like the wind, When it blows
From here to there from coast to coast
He might come back, creep in at dawn
He might arrive when dusk has gone
Like the wind, When it blows
